Radioactivity Measurements Laboratory

Alpha and gamma spectrometry are widely used in the laboratories in the world to study the environment. In the Radioactivity Measurements Laboratory in Gliwice both methods are used to study processes occuring in the natural environment such as soil erosion or lake sedimentation. The radioactive tracers are valuable methods to study those processes. In the Radioactivity Measurements Laboratory there are two main fields of intrest:

  • Using Pb-210 to study sedimentation in lake and marine environments with the aid of alpha spectrometry
  • Using Cs-137 to study soil erosion and deposition with the aid of gamma spectrometry.
